Apocalypse | Festive Trumpets | Education | CARNYX Brass
Carnyx Brass was formed in 2007 by three of Scotland’s leading brass players with the specific aim of exploring and developing the repertoire for brass trio. Over the past thirty years, the brass quintet of two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba has become recognised as the “standard” brass chamber music line-up, mainly because of the pioneering work of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble.
However, many distinguished composers have also written for a trio of trumpet, horn and trombone. The compact and concentrated sound of these three instruments covers a vast range of sound and colour, which demands great clarity of thought and imagination of the composer, and corresponding precision of the players.
Carnyx Brass gave their debut performance in the world premier of John Kenny’s “Balvenie Castle” at BBC Scotland’s Proms in The Park on September 8th 2007; to an audience of over 20,000 and broadcast live nationally and internationally.
Mark O’Keeffe – Trumpet
